Well here is one of the reasons I haven’t been around much, been working on this 1984 Ninja 900. “Highway to the Danger Zone” baby! LOL! Actually the Ninja in Top Gun was a 1985, but they are the same. And NO I will not be making it look like that bike in colors or stickers.

Basically what I’ve done is my father-in-law and I have been working on all the electrical issues this beast has. We hit a good stopping point and it is ready to take to my mechanic at the end of January for a carb clean and start up. If the motor is OK then mucho work begins.

The positive is parts for these bikes is generally plentiful with tons of aftermarket stuff for sale in the UK. Parts Kawasaki quit making 15 years ago (assholes). 70,000 Ninjas had been made and shipped so that has made it easier too. I joined a Ninja board out of the UK and those guys are beyond loyal to this model bike! So their assistance has been a blessing.

I am posting this up in VFR for you alls entertainment and I may be asking some of you for assistance too in locating parts if need be; I hope that is OK. Till the end of January…enjoy!

upload the pics (1 by one) to tinypic.com
copy the BBS code in the middle once the upload is complete
paste the code into your posting
    done
you need to include the {IMG} {/IMG} parts of the link (the real link will have square brackets.

Bubba, you already uploaded them in VFRworld I see but you linked to your thumbnails instead of the actual pictures. I'll link my how-to in, but you already know. Click on the thumbnail so that you are looking at the real version of you pic, then copy the image location...

here's the real easy way http://vfrworld.com/forums/vfrworld-news/28253-how-do-i-put-pictures-my-messages.html

    Cool Beans Bubba!!!

Now that's just plain neat, the old tube steel double down-tube backbone frame.
Kinda reminds me of my old '80 CB750F.
That's one cool old bike you've got there Bubba.
I really enjoy watching these old bikes being restored.
Looking good so far, keep us posted.

because it is. Thats why I need a ZX14 and to brag about 200mph runs on public highways. I have a massive ego and a micro unit.

Very cool! I've been thinking of getting another older bike to keep my VFR company, maybe a 500. Amazing how much fun they are to work on. Keep us posted.

    BUBBA,

I can save you a lot of money.

You do not need to take it to a mechanic for a carb clean. It is not like a car.
All you need to do is remove the float bowl and remove the idle jet and make sure you can see daylight through it.
The idle jets get clogged up or gummed up from sitting. look at the float needles and make sure the tip is pointed and not deformed.
Then carefully put it back. Those are two of the most important things to check
Also if you remove a vacuum diafram -that top cover and make sure the rubber diafram is not split.

I was a HONDA mechanic for many years at a dealership, and I am 60 now and was 16 years old when I first started working on bikes.
Carbs are the same and fuel injection is even better it is just that the fuel injection parts cost much more.

    Hey Don:

Thanks for the confidence in me with carb cleaning, but there is more to the ‘re-build’ than I have posted at the moment. In addition, I am not very good at learning new skills via reading alone…normally.

If you lived closer I’d invite your ass over for cold Rolling Rocks and a carb cleaning seminar LOL!
