Bubba's Hack Job.

Just had to share this F'n madness.

I recently started into the Suzuki GSXR750 I picked up a short while back. I pulled off the rear seat/side cowl and discovered a problem with the rear sub-frame. It appears that a P.O. "Bubba" didnt know how to remove a stripped bolt. Bubba's tool kit only consists of a hammer, a grinder, some tape and a hack-saw.

Yes, I think you've all known a "Bubba" at some point or bought one of his past bikes.

The allen head bolt head obviously got stripped during the task of removing the sub-frame. Bubba, then decided that instead of drilling out the bolt and using an EZ-out, that grinding the head off the bolt was the way to go. When this failed, bubba's next move was to use a saw-z-all or hack saw and just lop off that particular leg of the sub-frame.

F'n brilliant Bubba, Problem solved ! think of the time you saved there!

Now then, how about re-attaching it all ? not a problem for Bubba ! hunk of metal bracket bolted to the 2 halves of the decapitated sub-frame with carriage bolts (yes, carriage bolts), will do just fine. That will be sturdy and safe right Bub's ? never flex or buckle while your in a full tuck behind the fairing doing a buck fifty in you tank top and flip flops.

How about a piece of metal on both sides of that frame Bub's ? or maybe take it and get it welded ? oh yea thats right, you didnt just cut through it once you kept at it and hacked a good 1/4 inch of square stock out of there, just to give yourself a bit of wiggle room I guess.

Bubba cost me a new sub frame off Ebay and a new bolt from Suzuki. Lucky the sub-frame was cheap.

Am I worried about getting that bolt out myself ? not really, Im not saying it will be easy, but Ill get it done (LH Drill bit, EZ-Out, heat etc). What I am worried about is, why T F Bubba was removing the sub-frame to begin with and what other havoc did he wreak on this bike that I have yet to find.

Remind me again why we do this ?

Yea, lets hope.

I am expecting a 2nd gear issue, they usually suffer from that.

 

Wow that bike looked perfect, hard to believe the PO did that to such a clean bike.

 

At least it was a Stanley bracket.

Nothing surprises me anymore. I would consider it a win that they/it didn't cut the frame itself.

 

He probably used 10 D- cell batteries to run the bike. This looks like the same stuff I see on my way to work. Duct tape bumpers, window tint on the windshield, dudes driving on donut spare tires doin 85mph. It's very creative out there by minds that have no technical understanding. It's a good watch until you run over that bumper with your nice car...ask me how I know.

 

I have the second gear from my RF900 on my desk as a coaster.

 

I think we've all run into a bubba or two. Problem is as rogue states, people will 'fix' their vehicles in ways that create eventual missiles or navigational hazards.
Pretty tough on the two-wheelers. Also love finding re-cap portions.

 

That steel bracket is stronger than that aluminum anyway, right?
