Yea, I'm new here, but this is the "Suggestion Box", so anything goes. The following is just my opinion.

The ChatBox...please either get rid of it or make it an option to not appear after logging in.

#1. I don't think it has real value on a forum where people visit for INFORMATION, not mindless banter. I frequent many different forums in an attemp to educate myself on different hobbies of mine, and this is the only one with a "ChatBox" feature.

#2. Most importantly, for me, is that it completely bogs down my Pocket PC when I'm trying to browse this forum. I do 95% of my web/forum surfing via my Pocket PC phone. Yes, I'm aware of the "Mobile" setting available here on VFRWorld, but that is too stripped down for me. Just getting rid of the ChatBox would be a perfect compromise.

Welcome to the forum Alan. This is quite the surprising request I must say for a first post. All you need to do is click on the "arrow" on the upper righthand corner of the chatbox, and "POOF" it is gone. It should be gone even when you log in again.

You have to understand that what you consider mindless banter, is a way for people to communicate on here. It might not always be about motorcycles, but it is about our lives, and it helps us communicate, share information quickly, and get to know each other a lot better. I know it has helped me get to know a lot more about a lot of members in a short amount of time. Many members use this chatbox feature, and most members like it whether they participate using it or not, as you will see its popularity as you spend more time here. Taking it down for one person would affect the many, which is not a good thing. Not to mention, many of our members are paid insiders, and they like this feature as well. Democracy rules. Give it a chance, and you might come to love it. Besides, who wants to be like everybody else???

Like I said, use the arrow in your right upper corner and the chatbox will disappear.

When you have a "Suggestion Box", you're ASKING for suggestions. I'm simply adding mine. Would it be that difficult to make it an OPTION?

The arrow in the upper right corner only makes it disappear temporarily. When I browse to another thread, it reappears.

I was/am not a fan of the chat, either, but many others here like it and use it regularly...

I was not aware that I could make it disappear, but it stays gone for me from thread to thread, so I'm happy now. I don't know what your "Pocket PC's" problem is with it

I have to agree with Stuka, however, that attacking the chatbox feature of this forum becuase YOU don't like it is not the best first post to have. Even if it is in the "Suggestion Box"...

Maybe it is an issue with pocket PC's. The chat will stay hidden for me from thread to thread as well once I click the upper righthand box. Let me research and see about if there is another way to make it disappear for an individual.

I'm not very familiar with Pocket PCs but have you looked at the browser settings for cookies? Your browser might be disabling them and you'll have to enable them. That might do the trick with keeping the chatbox gone.

derstuka, thanks for taking the time and making the effort.

The option to "hide" the ChatBox does just that...HIDE it. It's really still there, just hidden from view. Since it's still "there", the browser still has to load it's content. On my PPC (Windows Mobile 6.1), the option IS there to hide it, but if I change the "view" type to "single column", it reappears.

Joey_Dude, the browser/cookie settings are correct.

JTC, if I were forced to own ANY Apple product, I'd choose to give up the Interweb. Subject dropped via this thread. (A perfect topic for the ChatBox  )

That said, with out the chat feature, my life as I know it would cease to exist...

I was trying to break into posting, but apparently it is more difficult than it looks.

So I need the chat even more now that I have nothing to fall back on.

Agreed. Just make an option so that it can be turned off for an individual profile....

Remove the scratchbox from a membergroup and then allow people to join that membergroup. We do that on another forum to remove banner ads for paid subscribers.
