I have a 99 vfr800 that has started to make a clicking sound from the motor when I roll the bike forward only, not backwards...at least I think the sound just started...hopefully Im wrong and this is normal. The only thing I have done recently in regards to the engine is change the spark plugs. This is when the bike is off and in neutral. It almost sounds like I can hear it from each cylinder...like a "Tick-tock" sound moves to each cylinder?? I can fell it slightly in the handle bars too. I cant hear it when its running simply because of the engine sound itself. The sound interval moves in succession with how fast or slow I roll the bike, if that made sense. Roll it faster..the clicks are shorter in between, roll it slower...the clicks are slower.

I dont remember hearing this sound before I changed the plugs.

It is not the front sprocket or anything chain related...the sound is definitely coming from the motor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks much!

Also if this helps I have the snorkel removed and flapper disabled. Though I did that last season and dont remember hearing this sound at all last season.

Remove the 3 1/2" diameter inspection cover from the clutch cover, then get the rear wheel up and spin it over by hand (with the sparkplugs removed) listening both in neutral and in a gear.........

Check that none of the 3 bolts on the starter clutch have loosened.

Thanks! I will have a look and report back my findings. It may be a little bit as I am about to break it down for paint.
