Hi, I'm new here but have taken advice from these forums over the years, for that I want to thank you all.

I'm having to reach out as I have a problem that I just can't figure out.

Someone recently tried to steal my Honda VFR800 fi motorcycle, they tampered with my chain and failed to pick the lock. But out of spite (or to keep my bike in the same place) the thieves cut a stem of wires that goes into the ignition. It has three wires. A blue one, a red one, and a red one with a black stripe.

Interestingly, when I went to start my bike I managed to disable the spyball patriot alarm as normal by pressing the fob. The indicator lights came on which signifies that it's been disarmed. I put the key in and it had electrics, and then pressed ignition and there was nothing and it didn't even try to start (obviously, as the wires were cut).

It was late and I needed the day light to work on it and splice the wires back together safely, I done so, but now there's nothing when I press the fob. It's a totally dead bike. I put the key in and nada, nothing zilch. Press the fob and the alarm system doesn't even light up.

I thought maybe the cut wires had drained the battery, but I no longer think that's the problem as I put jumper cables onto a car and my bike, yet still nothing when I press the alarm on the fob or turn the key.

What I honestly think is that the immobiliser has kicked in and bricked it. I don't know how to reset it.

I've had issues in the past with the spyball alarm and I've managed to reset by pressing and holding the button on the fob, then turning the key with it still depressed, but that didn't work.

I'm 200 miles away from home right now, my motorcycle won't start and it's in a similar spot where someone vandalised and tried to steal it. I'm not a happy bunny and pretty desperate so any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear of your problems. I don't have any good advice but maybe disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reconnecting might reset something?

Welcome to the Madhouse David - even if your first post is looking for help with a problem.:Welcome:

For the immediate problem - I fear you now need to arrange to have the bike collected transported either to a competent local garage to potentially ride it home or even get it taken home to sort out later. If your motorbike insurance covers assistance - I would start there.

If you lack such cover then a search on-line for A to B motorbike deliveries to find a courier firm able to bring the motorbike home. Motorcycle dealers routinely use couriers to deliver across the UK so a call to a local dealer may be able to put you in touch with a reliable firm. Sadly this means you miss out on a 200 mile ride home and are stuck with the joys of public transport.

When you get it home put the battery on charge and in daylight carefully inspect the motorbike and repair any cut damaged wiring. There may be other damage you have not spotted, and shorts between wires being cut could have killed fuse.

If the wiring is back to standard you should see the normal display messages and hear the fuel pump prime. Don't forget the basics - kill switch and neutral (spitefull people are not averse to messing with them too).

If the bike still will not wake up or start then you may need to track down a motorbike electrician - a dealer should know someone competent. Hopefully you still have the spyball alarm manual - as it may have special deactivating instructions or worse case removal to get the bike running again. (PS I hate alarms and opt for an approved U lock instead). It might be a pain to drag around and use but it provides a very visible deterrent to opportunist thieves especially attached to a lampost or something fixed. Sadly it seems pretty much any motorbike can be targetted by organised gangs with the bike removed and dissapeared into a van in few seconds. As for trackers et al they start from the premise you will have the bike stolen - hence prevention is better than ending up with a "stolen/recovered" claim agains the bike.

Good luck - let us know how you get on.

Hi David really sad to hear what these rotten pricks have done to your bike and leaving you stranded, sincerely hope we can all help you out and get you going again.

    Firstly some clarity......
    - Your statement above - It would be impossible to "put the key in and it had electrics" while the three Ignition Switch wires are cut!
    - Red Ignition Switch wire is wired Hot to the battery via Main Fuse A 30amp located in the Starter Relay. In cutting the wires they could well have created on dead short to frame and blown that Main Fuse - So check that Fuse.
    - I'm not familiar with how the Alarm System inhibits the Starting System. Are you able to Isolate the Alarm from the bike so it has No effect?
    - Assume their is no damage to the wires going to the HISS Receiver/Antenna?

For Info - The three Ignition Switch wires are...
Red, Main 12v incoming from the Battery via Main Fuse A 30amp.
Red/Black, Switched 12v feeding sub fuses in Fuse Box.
    Blue/Orange, Cooling Fan power.

At switch On, check that you hear the Fuel Pump prime for 2 to 3sec, the Fi light should come On then Off in the same period, and the HISS light also does the same.

Let's know how you get on, we're all here to help. Good Luck.
