Much the same anywhere..overuse of the rear brake can be a hazard. Here we have gadgets called "deer whistles" . Not a clue as to whether they work or not especially on elk or moose. Hit one of those and it's all over. Yep, the folks who make the deer whistles swear by them.
when I was in NJ, had several people complain that they installed these little bullet devices "deer-whistles" and they still hit bambi. One doode, had them on his bike and hit a deer that night. I knew a doode, and his brother lived in Hope NJ. Well the brohams little woman hit maybe 6-7 bambies. It got so bad that the insurance cancelled her, this coincided with her trip back from the body repair shop (after hitting bambi) only to hit another bambi! Some stuff should be put in movies as you can't make this chit up. Anyway, here in South FL, we have Key Deer, they are small and as you guessed, they are in the Keys. They also have fences up along the road to prevent FL Cougars and these deer to traverse on the road. (FL Cougars are not the older two legged hair sprayed makeup wearing ones btw.) :tounge: Cheers. btw, I hit a bambi with my 93 Nighthawk when I was oot riding in NJ years ago, just whistling along at night with not a care in the world when all of a sudden this big Marmaduke looking thing was right in the middle of the road. I locked up the brakes and skidded with my knee into his hind quarters. Did a u-turn to access the damage and witnessed the deer hobbling off the road with blood coming oot of its back side. Score: Nighthawk 1 Deer 0. Got home and had a broken fairing stay and the blinker was bent back a little, the funny thing was that there was all this coarse deer hair stuck in my cloth throw over saddle bags. I had a "stich" suit on and it was none the worse for wear or tear. No bruise on my knee either, it got bad with them deers, I understand its ever worse now! I have been gone for 20 years and really have no desire to go back. Cheers and safe happy riding.
