just put the bike in for an MOT yesterday and it passed with three advisories, 1- steering movement slightly 'notch', 2- roller brake test indicates slight fluctuation of brake effort, 3- brake disc is slightly distorted, what amount of distortion is acceptable as I cannot find anything in my manual about it and was quoted £198 to have new disc, pads and bolts, this was from a Honda dealer, any recommendations for a replacement disc as in standard original or aftermarket?, I cannot feel anything through the rear brake pedal, thanks

Personally, rear disc doesn't do a lot except when parking - lol

    However,

    No 1. Steering bearings

No 2. Remove rear disc, place on a flat piece of glass see if it is flat.

More than likely disk off kilter with wheel, remove and check for crap between disk and wheel. Could be uneven tightening of bolts. After checking everything, remount and torque bolts evenly.

Did you get mot done at a Honda dealer?

Funnily enough the only times I have ever had that was when I had 2 bikes MOT d at a Honda dealer. Never bothered with the discs, strangely enough none of the subsequent mots mentioned the problem at all . I owned the bikes for 5 plus years.

Warpage is 0.20mm front and 0.30mm rear, it is in the Honda manual under Hydraulic Brake specifications.

    Notchy steering fair enough

yes it was the Honda dealer in Grantham, Vertu Honda, will borrow a dial gauge off the father in law sometime to check as I will not be using it much unless a nice dry day happens,I am a right girls blouse if it is cold, same as going camping in my camper van in the winter,I do have really good clothing as well for the bike (Halversons prime jacket and prince trousers).Have been looking for a disc online and Wemoto are doing an EBC disc for £107

I took mine for a mot the first year I got it and an advisory was worn brake discs. Rode it , enjoyed it and next year it was slightly leaking fork seals. No mention of the discs. The leaking seals was spilt brake fluid . It's passed it's mot so ride it and don't worry about the advisory.

I doubt very seriuosly if disk is warped or distorted, re-torque mounting bolts first.

It may be just an unfounded suspicion however it is strange how often such findings happen at this time of year when workshops see a big drop in demand as winter weather arrives.

Monitor the steering notchiness - if it is there it will only get worse and you will find low speed handling suffers.

As for the rear disc warp as has been suggested up-thread it might be worth removing, cleaning and then checking for true against a straight edge if its within tolerances just reinstate and keep riding. It might also be worth freeing off/cleaning the bobbins - its a 5 minute job - there is a youtube How To video out there somewhere.

it has a solid disc fitted so no bobbins to do, hope to get the wheels powder coated a different colour from the standard black to a lighter colour of some sort so may have a look at the disc then depends if I can be arsed to be honest as I said earlier I cannot feel anything

I had this as an advisory 3 years ago found a great garage in maidstone to the wheel in with the discs on he measured them up and said one was quite warped and the other a little took 2 hours and charged me £40 to do the pair!! Two little old boys and all they do is this and frame straightening, let me know if you want details.
