Do I have the stock OEM Rectifier?

    Hey guys!

    I'm in the process of ordering my VFRness bundle, and I'm wondering if my 02 VFR800 has the stock rectifier.

    The part number on it is sh689a-12.

    I've looked around on various sites, and I cannot find out if this is the original that the bike was shipped with.

    The bike has 11,000 miles.

    Call your local Honda dealer and they should be able to look up your Vin # and let you know if the re.call was fixed

    If the part number starts with SH, it is garbage and/or possibly OEM. Throw away and replace with a mosfet rr, part number FH020aa, ASAP.

    Yep, "SH' prefix is nothing but a problem. Shindegnan or something like that. (Where's Mello Dude when we need him?)

    What Candy Red said - get something with mosfet.

    On a side note, your model had a recall on a wiring harness. Give your local Honda dealer a call, provide your VIN, and they can tell you if it was done.

    Haha Shenzhen or what ever makes all the good stuff.
    I think ah stands for shunt type rr. That is the problem.

    Thanks guys! I found out it had the wire harness recall done before I bought the bike.

    It has OEM hand warmers on it, so I ordered the VFRness Bundle.
    I will be hopefully installing the VFRness this weekend, along with ordering the new mosfet rectifier.

    If you get a MOSFET R/R then ditch the VFRness and wire it direct. That way you eliminate the other problem with the VFR charging system... the connectors. The connectors are open to the elements and tend to oxidize.

    The easiest way to hook up a Mosfet Regulator

    Yes - that is the stock "upgraded" R/R. You may as well get out the voltmeter and test the voltage at idle and 5000 rpm at the battery. Then you can see how its doing. It may be ok for now.... then die next week or die 10,000 mile from now. But for certain, someday it will crap out.

    If its good, its probly worth it to install a voltmeter some place around the dash of the bike so you can watch the voltage as you ride. - If its crap now, that's another direction.

    I am wired rr direct to the battery and vfrness installed. You can do them both. In fact, I would not recommend doing one with out the other.

    Ok great!
    I will wire in the VFRness and wire the rectifier directly to the battery (I'm assuming there is a fuse in there?).

    No disrespect, but why? What do you gain by doing that? I chucked my VFRness in the thrash when I installed my ZX-10 R/R. One of the socket connectors in the VFRness had pushed out and would not snap back in. Chucking it also eliminated one of the weak points in the charging system, the poor connectors that Honda chose to use.
