So I took delivery of a brand new 07 vfr800 yesterday. I have been doing research for the past week on the proper way to break in an engine. In the past I have just followed the owners manual but from what I've read that might not be the best way.

I am going to follow this procedure: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

I dont plan on babying it. I will vary the rpms up to 5000 rpm and plan to load the engine so the cylinder and rings can wear in by doing moderate accelleration and deceleration. I also plan to change the oil with convensional oil at 60 miles to get all the shavings or whatever else out of the engine.
Can anyone add thier experiences with breaking it in this manner or by the manual...

There are many opinions to breaking in an engine... The manual doesn't say much either. Looks like you have found your method  Below are a few threads have already been started which may or may not help. Either way, rest assured that your bike is a Honda, aside from the occasional electrical issue she should run for a long time. Changing the oil is good, especially in the beginning stages.
