question about the F4 shock which is a popular replacement for the VF500F junker.
can the mount with the damping adjuster be unscrewed from the shaft while the shock is charged with gas/oil?
Would be nice to see a part blowup of how this mechanism works since I have not had one apart.

This would be a great question for Jamie Daugherty (www.daughertymotorsports.com) as he rebuilds and sells F4 shocks.

As far as I know, the rebound adjusting screw has a taper that bears on the end of the rebound needle that passes up into the piston through the shaft. There will certainly be an o-ring seal around the needle within the shaft, but I would expect that the gas pressure would try and eject the needle if you were to remove the adjuster while pressurised.
