Participated in a military family fundraiser/poker run out on Vandenberg Air Force Base on Friday. Day started at 6am and luckily the first group pulled out around 0715. Temps were in the 80's by 6am. We saw fluctuations from 106 to 78 degrees depending on what part of the base we were on. After lunch, leaving base about 1:30, temperatures peaked at 112 on east base. By the time I got the camera out, the best picture I could snap was 111 on the VFR though. XX verified 112 on the bmw gauge too. Had a ton of fun, about 58 bikes I think was the final count. Nothing exciting, speeds of 25-50mph all day, but some amazing scenery. I was on cleanup with XXFirefighter and a few Hardleys, so we got to take our time and enjoy the views. This is a 35 mile section of the California coastline that few will ever get to see. Ended up being two other VFR's on the ride, both 4th gens. One belongs to a guy I've talked viffers with before at one of base car shows. The other is a recent score of a lady that's definitely someone's mom, possibly someone's grandmother. Either way, it's her first bike and she was having the time of her life as was evident by the obvious grin barely contained by her helmet. Here's the link to the entire photo album: CLICK And a few pics. One of our stops happened to be at building next to a Peacemaker facility. I kept one eye on the rotating green light during the whole stop. And the Pink lady herself. Heading down to the old boat-house. XX says, "OH HAI" Anyways, few more pics in the gallery: CLICK. Was a great day to help out the cause, and the afternoon with the pitcher of margaritas in the pool was an even better way to recover.
Damn, that be just too hot for me senor! Looks like fun though! Did you have a good poker hand in the end?
Geez, they must have kept this pretty quiet. I work out there and didn't hear a thing about it.........and of course as hot as it was, I was staying inside, until the power cut out in the afternoon, which gave us an excuse to scidaddle for the weekend. A great day to go down to the Boat house and such though. The pink lady you refer to works in the building next to mine. I see her quite a bit in the mornings. Haven't talked with her though.
obviously Brian and I use the same Asian massage place. I'll let XX pipe in on the event. I was one of the few civilians on the ride.
