Hi all, am considering having my forks rebuilt on my 5th gen for trackdays by a firm over here in the UK. Would i be better off swapping them for Cbr forks and if so which are the best ones to get? This option would be cheaper as they are easily available over here and hopefully give me better performance. Also can i use the CBR brakes? What about the linked braking if i do? Any advice gratefully recieved.

Depend on what you are after. There are many ways to go. Lots of guy have done different fork swaps.... .R1, RC51, CBR, F4i, SH etc.

The thing about doing the front end swaps, there is more than just the forks to consider, choosing the correct triple tree for retaining the correct rake/trail, the right clip-ons that will work with the new forks and triple tree, the front wheel and spacers to retain the correct caliper/rotor alignment, getting the correct master cylinder/caliper combination and of course the whole de-linking the brakes process. Time and money is basically what you're looking at. So depending on how much time you have if you're a DIY'er or how much money you want to invest is really the driving force here. Although some riders prefer to not have linked brakes on their track bikes, I persoanlly haven't noticed any issues with them on my spirited rides, but every rider is different.

That being said, I actually contemplated doing the front end swap on my 5 Gen as I'm building it for sport/track riding, but I ended up just having the forks rebuilt by Jamie Daugherty (he owns daughertymotorsports and is a member on the forum). Basically I had him put in rebound adjusters, new springs, valves and shim stack setup for my riding weight and type of riding I'd be doing (sport/track) and I am very happy with the results. The bike handles very well and I have no complaints. That being said, he now sells a "drop in" kit that basically offers what I got but had to send off for him to install. Although I could have had him send the components but I didn't really have the time to do it myself. I also used the money I would have spent on just the fork swap and picked up a Penske shock and had Jamie redo that at the same time as the forks...money well spent IMO.

If you have any mechanical aptitude, getting Jamie's drop in kit should be a breeze to do it yourself and it is very affordable but going local is sometimes the better option as support is closer and getting adjustments made is quicker and easier.

I hope this was helpful to you.

    Cheers
