front sprocket orientation? 1985 vf500f

hello, lurker here with an 85 500 interceptor. am doing a full mechanical/cosmetic refresh, and documenting this in my build thread in the "old's cool" section over on advrider.com

am wondering if the raised section of my new front sprocket should face out? there's markings showing the original sprocket was mounted both ways (raised section out, flat side out). can't find anything in my owners' manual or service manual. a few on-line pics show the raised section out, but also the flat side out.
