fuel off position vf500f

out of curiosity, and to see if something is wrong with my petcock. how long should the bike idle with the fuel selector in the off position? I let mine run today for a good 5-10 min in the off position and it didn't die out.

 

I've ridden my '86 for a few miles before it died, just to see how long it would take

 

mines an 86 too. so i guess what i saw was normal.

 

I would check the petcock and make sure it is not leaking. It should not run on that long. The non replacable but fixable rubber 4 hole gasket was cracked. The fuel finds its way to the carbs. After I fixed it my bike cuts out in less than 1/2 mile.
Pull the tank hose and put a hose extension on it to a gas can. Turn the petcock to off. Then suck on the small vent tube and pinch it off just like the manual tells you too. There shoud be no gas flowing at all. You may get a surprise.
