Ok, so maybe this is my own fault for waiting so long, but...
I've had my 2000 VFR for a couple of years now and am finally getting around to getting a top case. I called a local motorcycle dealer to ask about the availability of the Givi Wingrack and was told they are getting harder to get because it may be being discontinued. This is no good, because after reading many of your comments, I've decided that's the setup I want to get. I'm not sure if I want to get the hardcases themselves at this point, but definately want to get the rack, so at least I can strap a bag that I have to a stable platform.
Anyone know where I can get one in the SF bay area? I'm going on a roadtrip the last weekend in July on some nice roads in Northern Cali and would love to have it by then. Any help/ideas for possible alternatives would be appreciated.

A friend with a 2000 was having a similar problem getting a top plate for his wingrack through any dealers. He ended up going through givi usa directly and got his part from them yesterday. Might be an option if Craigslist is no help.

Craigslist? What's that? Just kidding. I've been talking to Road Rider in San Jose, they seem to be much more helpful than calling Givi directly. I keep being told that the Wingrack (Y161) and Monorack (FZ257) are the same thing. Does that make sense?

No, that is not true. The wingrack gives you the option of using two side cases and a top case, or any combination thereof. The Monorack is just that... a "mono" rack, allowing you to only use the top case.

If you want a wingrack, order a wingrack II. however, the Y161 (which is NOT the wingrack itself) fitment kit for the 5th gen VFR is no longer available new. You have to get lucky and find one, or you can't use the wingrack without fabricating your own mounts.

Here is a link to the wingrack II with the signals included (you can take them off if you don't need them, but I suggest them since large GIVI bags will make your rear signals invisible from the side).

    You need the following parts:

    N140 wingrack
Y161 fitment kit for the VFR (no longer made, but I may be convinced to part with one for the right price!)
1, 2, or 3 monokey bags (or zero, if you are waiting on those).
