Pretty good read - I owned a 4th gen for a bunch a years myself. (I own a 5th now) I agree the detailing on the 4th is way better than the 5th, the 5th has a bunch of obvious cost conscience design changes. My favorite thing about the 4th is the gauges - all analog and classy. Also everthing is just fit and finish quality. The riding position is more personal than the 5th.

The guy's thing on the engine is a little off, there not much top end on the 4th, but the engine character is butter smooth and beats any FI bike.

I really loved my 4th gen as the unflappable road companion would get another sometime. I was itching for a change and rode an 800. His digs on the 800's are way off though. If I could have both I would.

You fishing ? his comments on the 5th Gen are quite ill informed.

    Quoted from review:
" By 1998 Honda did a revamp of the VFR. They jumped the displacement to 800cc and did away with the whirring gear-drive valve train in favor of a belt drive system. "
" The 800cc version really had no performance benefit over the 750 since they also managed to pork it out with an added 50 pounds "

Honda didn't, the Gen 5 uses GDC's from the RVF750 and makes more HP and weighs 5 lb's less than the Gen 4, only Gen's 1 & 2 are slightly lighter. Other than that I'm willling to conceed his writing style is good and his personal comments directly about the 4th Gen on detail are valid.

For a legitimate Review between the 4th&5th Gens read below:

If I wasn't such a one eye'd Gen 5 lover I might agree, the best sounding VFR I've ever heard was a Gen 4 with High mount Tingate exhaust and had even put a deposit on an immaculate Gen 4 with 9000miles after a nice feeling test ride but changed my mind when I stumbled upon a truly as new Gen 5 with only 1900miles for only $800USD more and probably swimming against the tide but prefer the Gen 5's angry looks from the front and like seeing when riding home in the dark.
