    Hi All,

Introducing my new (to me) 2000 VFR 800fi!
    RF_Small.jpg

I live in Columbus, Indiana. Bought this off of Craig's List last September in Lexington KY.

I believe it has about 45k on it, odo LCD was dead when I bought it, so no way to be sure.
To my surprise it had Heli-bars and Galfers lines already.
    What I did to it/added:
    • Sargent Seat (I have a stock seat I'll want to sell at some point)
    • Grab bars (had none)
    • Found an odo LCD on ebay from England with about 47k on it. Probably close to true...now coolant temps in C !
    • Flushed brake and clutch fluid, also *carefully* cleaned munge from the reservoirs
    • Super flushed radiators (distilled+white vinegar, 2 x distilled then refilled with 50-50 - got engine hot each time)
    • Replaced battery
    • Upgraded R&R with mosfet Shindengen per advice following this thread vfrworld.com How-to-fix-common-regulator-Stator-failures (will also look to sell my stock regulator at some point, it appeared to work fine, but I plan to tour some and a flaky R&R is something I hope to avoid)
    • New tires naturally
    • Cleaned and lubed chain (I used toothbrush and mineral spirits for the crud) YMMV
    • Added the center fairing (yeah, missing too)
    • Added a bunch of fasteners that were missing
    • Gave it a wash and wax

Interestingly it appears to be a California model? It has the valve for the carbon canister and mounts for the canister, but no canister. From what I have read it seems most of these CA bikes had the canister stripped off very quickly due to weight.

It runs and rides great! Finally got a few hours in this weekend, and have started taking it to work.

Yeah, there may be many like it, but.... This one is MINE! :glee:

Hey Happy - Nice 5th gen. I'm over in Ohio and also have a CA model. I didnt realize that until about 6 weeks after I bought it.
    - But anyhoo, since the canister is gone, check the routing of the vacuum hoses. Best advise is to reroute and copy the 49 state hose routing that you can see in the factory manual. And then the solenoid on the right side of the bike is shit canned.

Welcome to The World Happyellow! Congrats on your new acquisition and nice job getting her back in shape. As far as the stock R/R since it was working you may want to keep it with you when your tour, as if the other one craps out, you'd have one ready to go.

Welcome aboard, there seem to be a whole bunch of slow yellow ones popping up lately.

Not sure if it can be done on the 5th gen, but on the 6th gens we can switch between imperial and metric by pressing and holding the left button on the gauges.

    Nice bike!

I read some on this. It sounds like the line into the air box (or intake manifold?) needs plugged too. Other concern is what to do with the connector.

After this season, I'll probably get a bit deeper and check the valve lash and while I have the tank off I can deal with the valve. I was too anxious to ride this year to pull the tank.
