    Meh...just a VFR800 in a fancy frock. I'll see myself out now...

Built by Honda for world superbikes when they were facing off against Ducati 1000cc v-twins. The 45 was a bit of a beast to ride and won a single World Championship under John Kocinski, and was ultimately replaced by the RC51 twin on the principle "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em".

Rumour has it that the RC45 crankcase moulds and jigs were modified to allow production of the 98-01 RC46 VFR800 engine.

sitting for 32 years, a miracle but consider......

if that engine sat unused and not maintained during storage, it might be damaged, piston rings tending to stick to (and damage) cylinders if a crank isnt rotated during long storage periods. oiling cylinders and periodically turning the crank would be needed to avoid damage from long-term storage.

Low Flyer, you need to take a little road trip about 6 hours south to Birmingham... There's like two RC45's in the tower that surround the massive freight elevator, and on the 3rd level, there's a platform of 4 brand new Interceptors (first bikes bought for location) and also that back wall on the right..

When I said, "Simply incredible.", I was talking about the $90,000 bid, not specifically the bike.

But, I'm not as intimately familiar with these bikes as you folks are. My very limited knowledge is just a kid out of high school drooling over these bikes in the mid 80's. And now of course, the VR1000R that I just bought about a month ago.

I find it hard to believe that it would garner $90,000 as, ".just a VFR800 in a fancy frock.", but I'm not an expert by any measurement.
