Hello guys, my name is john and I am from Springfield, missouri. To be honest, I don't have a VFR yet and thats why im here, I am actually a sales manager at a harley-davidson dealership but have been wanting something a little different to play with on the weekends. The other day I took on trade the most beautiful thing i have ever seen, a white 2006 VFR. It has two brothers exhaust, the one with the fake canister on one side that opens up, a seargent seat, grips, and few other extras along with new tires. Now for the question part. Its has just shy of 25k miles. Is this too many? it is in excellent shape with not a dent or scratch, and it seems to run very well. what is your thoughts on this? thanks for the help guys!

These engines seem to be bullet proof. 25k is just breaking her in. LOL Now the 6th gen V4's dont have the the gear driven cams so you have to keep an eye on the cam tensioner. I've never read/seen/saw/heard of any 5th or 6th gen V4's grenading. The only big problem on the VFR's is with electricity. Some times the r/r or rectifier just doesnt last. I have almost 44k on my '01 5th gen. Luckily I have had no BIG/real problems with mine.

The valves do use shims. From all the reading and talking, the valves seem to stay within specs for a VERY long time. Some guys check them regularly with no changes and some guys say a couple were slightly out of spec. I think I've read one guy say the first time he checked his was at 60k and they were in spec. Don't hold me to it, but with so many saying theirs not needing adjustment makes me sleep better since I've never checked mine.

With proper maintanence you should be able to easily get 75k miles or more out of the bike. A recall was issued for the electrical harness on 2002-2005 models but this problem was allegedly corrected in 2006.

    2006 White VFR

Hey John, I just bought the same bike more or less, white, same exhaust (it freaks people out when I pull my little bag out of the left tube) and mine had 19500 on it. I personally don't think that 25k is too many miles at all as long as the maintenance is up to date. I fell in love with my bike the first time I saw it. Good luck, you won't regret getting it.

Got mine used with 21k on her, just turned over 28k today (gotta change the oil tomorrow). You're just in lust now, wait till you ride her, then you'll be in love. Grab that thing quick since you work there before one of your co-workers comes to their senses too and wants her!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though it may look pretty and run like a smooth machine, 25k is wayyyyyy too many miles to even think about buying.

Please forward the seller's name and phone number to me so that I may properly instruct him to take this tired old bike off the market before someone gets hurt.

Oh, and do you know his asking price?:pound:

If you get a VFR, it will be pretty much bullet proof with the sole exception of the wiring & voltage regulator. As long as the RR & wiring are OK, the VFR is probably the most reliable sport bike on the planet.

Another problem I forsee are the Orange & Black Cult members making fun of your new "Jap Scrap".

    KC-10 FE out...

    Welcome aboard.
    Take it!
25k is not very much for a VFR.
A valve clearance check wouldn't be a bad idea, but I bet they are pretty good still.

    Thanks for the quick info!

Thanks guys for the quick information! I am very familiar with the orange and black cult, when I first started working at the dealership I had a CBR600f3. I was constantly coming out after work to find rice on the ground under my bike like it was leaking. I think i will buy it, as I can get it for $3800.00 and it's in perfect shape. i just didnt know much about the V4 engines as all i have been around were thumpers, inline fours, and v-Twins. thanks alot and you guys are great!
