Help - 1986 VFR700 High Idle When Shifting Through Gears

Help! - 1986 VFR700 Engine Revs When Shifting Sluggish above 4000 RPM

Hi All,

I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 1986 VFR700 with 38,000 miles. Bike starts right away and runs. I have an issue where when shifting through the gears the engine will rev when the clutch is engaged for a couple of seconds then go back down to normal. Example. I shift from 1st to second gear, engage the clutch, release the throttle the engine revs up like the throttle is not dis-engaging.

I am also experiencing rough, sputtering engine issues at RPM's above 4000. I am not sure if the issues are related.

Does anyone have suggestions of where to start looking for the problem?
