HELP..... carb ID issue

    Calling all Carb GURUS.......
    I was just given an '86 Magna with an '82 Sabre 750 motor in it. I KNOW, it's not a VFR, but at least it's a V45 right?! Anyway, the bike is in AWESOME shape, but the carbs were DISGUSTING. A little TLC and a MAJOR cleaning and they are looking great. Now the issue.....I found one of the choke plunger had a cracked tip that broke off. I got one off Ebay that was for an '82 Sabre 750, but it was different - no needle on the end. The next one that LOOKED right was for a 1st gen VFR 750, well that wasn't it either. The difference being that the groove for the choke linkage is longer, making the overall length wrong. Can ANYBODY help me figure out what carbs (bike/year) these carbs are from? The 1st pic is the plunger that I need......

    Is there a rubber oring up in the piston body around the little tit, or if not, is there a rubber oring in the carb body down in the choke bore? The 2nd gen and later don't have that tit on the end but they use a rubber on the end of the piston. It's always good to carry a spare rubber, chicks dig bikers and want to put it on ya...

    In a pinch you could get a machine shop to turn down the plunger tip in a lathe to match what you need--the shoulder on the long shaft could be built up with a brazing rod and then turned down to match also. If you can't find a local shop to do it i would be happy to do it, just pm me to get info on where to send both parts.

    There is a rubber at the base of the plunger around the tit. The one that I got that said it was for the Sabre had a solid rubber and no tit. I was thinking that worse comes to worse, I would build up/fill in the groove with braze and then file it back down. I KNOW the right part is out there, just trying to find the right one before resorting to "making it work". Thanks for the offer, I will definately keep it in mind if I have to re-engineer the one that I have on hand. I attempted to braze the nipple back on the original, but when I started to add the heat from the torch, my visegrip jig, popped and sent the nipple flying across the garage and after over an hour on my hands and knees, I gave up the search.

    Just like on a boar hog, the tits are worthless and not necessary--that's why the later versions didn't have them. The solid rubber on the piston will seal off the port just fine--you could probably even use the original piston with little to no loss of function. When it's open you get enriched mixture from fuel being pulled up thru the port, when it's closed the port is blocked--that's all it has to do.

    Went ahead and modified the VFR one. Could have spent a few more minutes on the finish work, but it functions good.
