I got a small pinhole in my gas tank and after taking it to work and having some mechanics look at it and as they clean the area the hole just keeps getting bigger.

What choices do I have to fix it?

    ...and....

If I decide to replace it...what choices do I have...or does it have to be a VF500 tank?

I attached an image of where the hole is on my tank. The green circle is faint and dull but that's the approx SPOT OF THE HOLE.

Get the POR 15 system or better yet Eastwoods epoxy tank coating system and coat and seal the tank. They will fill and stop pinholes and stop any further deterioration. Either way, it's cheaper than a new tank.

I took the tank to a local Gas Tank repair place.

They deal with motorcycle gas tanks there too (saw alot of Bike tanks there)

They are going to fix the holes you can see on the outside and then coat the inside of the tank.
They gauranteed it wouldn't clog the Carbs or fuel filter....apparently they've been doing it for years. Charging me $120

Then I'll take the tank to a local Autobody shop that my work owns and get the red parts re-painted.

    hope that works for you.

For pinholed tanks i now use an epoxy coating from http://ww.caswellplating.com

costs less than $40 delivered, can treat 2 tanks, easy to use, very effective!!
