I contacted my local Honda dealer today about the 41l top box. I was told that as I have the 2010 model the box will not work on this year as it is unsafe. It is only for 2012+. Has anyone else heard of this and what drastic redesign did they need to do so that the bike will take a 41L box instead of the current pencil case offering?

Sounds like your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about. I believe the same optional Honda top rack would be used with all yrs of VFR1200. The subframe should be exactly the same. The top box may be listed as for 2012 only because of the color.

I have a Givi E55 and a Givi V46, both are probably larger in size and weight than the 41L Honda box. The SW Motech rack have no problem carrying either.

41l? I bought the original Honda 45l top box last week. 2011 DCT in black. Gets little bit unstable over 200km/h now, but the new tires (Roadsmart 2) seem playing a part in that.
However, shimmy at 80km/h with the top box. But nothing to worry about, still stable enough to go 250km/h.

2000km so far with the top box nd no problems.
