    Hi,

    I have a 1986 Honda VF 500 F2
But what is the difference between a 1986 Honda VF500 and Honda VF500 F2?

    Regards,
    John

Pretty sure it's just cosmetics. No major mechanical variance that I am aware of.

All I am aware of is F2 had full fairing while F had just top fairing and low cowl.

Also, I believe the F2 had a different rim / spoke pattern. I might have a picture somewhere that I can post up.

A bit of light reading for 500 fans, on a Friday afternoon.

IC - you are a wealth of information. Where do you find all of your 500 related material? I've been into this bike since it came out and haven't seen half the stuff you've come up with. Keep it coming.

Were these ever sold somewhere in the world? I was under the impression that the F2 was around 1986, not at the start of the 500 run in 1984? Interesting that the common VF500 didn't include the full-fairing. I wonder if Honda wasn't satisfied with the cooling properties of the bike with the full fairing. I sure looks sharp.

Yes, they were sold in Europe. It's all the UK got, with the half faired never making an appearance.
I 've always wondered why Honda went to the trouble of making pressed alloy wheels for Europe and cast alloys for US/Canada.

I added the Lockhart full fairing to my 500 and it really makes the RWB stand out. It doesn't look like the F2 or the aftermarket ones would really trap the heat making it run hotter. My 500 doesn't usually run too hot as it is. I like the look of the F2 better and wish it had been available in the US.

Here is my 1986 F2, it is 100% factory originale, and it will be so long as I own it :)

Glad you enjoyed the article, SJ239.

Here is another from Mr. Julian Ryder, proponent of the Honda V4. The article was written in 1990 and published in Motorcycle International.

One interesting thing to note, under the Service Chart: 'check drive train tension and valve clearances' every 1000 miles.

    Sound advice!

Wow, that certainly would have sold well! But so did the regular, North America VR500. Very nice.

    ^ Hey, there's nothing 'regular' about the VF500F ;-)

Sorry, how about "common"? You have to admit it sure looks nice all dressed up like a VF1000R

True enough, matching the kR is a 'good thing'.

As I stated before, another lost treasure that you seem to pull out of your hat no matter the topic! So you're still not planning to divulge your sources?

That was exactly my thought when I restored my 500 as seen here:

    I refer to the "mini-ceptor" as a "mini-R".

Indeed they are! Even the 84-86 models had those. Pretty standard issue really, even today.
