I have an opportunity to get my hands on a 78 hawk hondamatic 400. It will need gone thru. What's the popular opinion on this bike? It will be free to me except for the price of a bonded title.
I've looked at the before but have no experience with them. Looks just like the old CBs to me which I have always liked. I like the new CBs also. Honda is doing some very interesting things with the CB 500 platform this year.
I think that's what it is really, cb400. And I was lean I g towards the bobber idea. I was just looking for someone that had experience with the "hondamatic" tranny
I almost bought that exact year and color bike new from a dealer in 1980 for a bargain as it had been sitting....
Well I got it. After I do the repaint on my 86 this winter I'll get started on it. Here it is cleaned up and loaded on the trailer.
getting a good start. The carbs are horrible and gonna take a lot of work I'm kinda worried about the rubber diaphragm in each of them. Not getting power to the ignition either. Better look into a service manual
Check those brakes too. Those Hondamatics ( at least on the 750's) go into freewheel when ya back off on the throttle. The trannys were bulletproof according to a couple of guys I know who own 750's.
Thanks for the input guys. I need a manual before I go any further. I want to get it running before I spend too much time cutting and designing
There may even be a forum for the older Hondamatic bikes.. Or Ebay has a manual for 9K.. Good luck. The bike looks good like it's been indoors and not sitting out..
I found it in a abandoned building that I was asked to tear down. And the person said its been in there for years and years. It was however under a leaky spot in the roof but its not rusted or anything. Gas was left in the tank and carbs so they are nasty as can be but fixable. Thanks for the heads up on the manual. I dunno why I didn't thing to look for a forum...........
