No, its not the safest, its not the smartest, its pretty illegal, but weve all done it, and then done it again to try and go a little faster. I was coming home the other night at 2:30 AM and was on a stretch of straight 5 lane freeway (I5 through the edge of LA) and tried out the legs on my 6th gen. I gave it full wrist in 6th gear and got to 122 mph in just a moment and it still had legs to keep going. I let off and returned to a sane/less illegal speed. I want to know what you guys have done, on the streets, on the track, wherever?

Good answer. "How fast does that thing go? Well, it will do 10 MPH any day of the week."

Just remember, anything you post on the web could be used to discredit you should you ever be in an accident.

Great point. Civil litigation has a totally different set of rules and the standard of accepting things in civil court is far lower than criminal. But, I like to live on the edge. I've been as high as 20 MPH on many occasions.

LOL you're always High Randy ;) Yea one needs to be careful these days, what goes around sometimes comes back around and bites ya in the ass........ We all know how accurate the speed Os are, so hard telling. But on an on ramp a while back, with a very quick glance as at speed the last thing you should be doing is looking at the gauges SMH it's the pilot in me that knows quick reads . This particular quick glance showed me the needle going past the 130 mark and still going before I entered the freeway. Whoa, that dyno tune made this baby have some get up and go...

Whenever the time it takes to react needs to be faster than I'm actually going, I never look away from what's in front of me, so I never get to see the speedo! That split second of looking down could be the difference between having fun and ending up...well you know.

Fast enough to remind me that as a grandfather to 7 great kids, father to 3, father in law to 3, husband to 1 great woman that I cant bring myself to hurt them by doing something stupid, or getting caught up in something stupid that someone else is doing which puts me in danger. At some point in the future, my passing will hurt them more than I want to happen but I will do my best not to hasten that day as much as I can whilst still grinning from ear to ear everytime I throw my leg over my bike.
There are old bikers, there are bold bikers, there ain't many old, bold bikers, most of the latter are riding the highways in the sky

Aye 'Dead Eye Dick', I'm with you. When I was young and foolish, I did redline the 83 VF750 in top gear once, that was enough (126). Now I keep it under the 100 mark, most of the time max out at about my age, 72. Can't afford any tickets with the way insurance companies work these days. Plus the roads around here are in sad shape with too much debris!

I've had mine 145gps, showing 158 on the speedo. That's all she had cause she was at redline. I've been 163 on an R1 and it had more left.

I never talk about speed or speeding since factory gauges are notoriously inaccurate and besides it is a very good way to incriminate yourself on public record.

I had a guy slide up to me at the local Kwik Check and ask "how fast have you been on that?" I gave him an nondescript answer of "fast enough." He proudly told me of the GSXR750 he had that he had up to 175mph. I just smiled. I didn't have the heart to tell him that he was wrong. Unless you have a timing slip all such measurements are bogus. He rode away on a cute little red Chinese scooter.

We had a guy come into the shop once and brag that he had gone over 150 on his Harley. By boss looked over his half glasses and said "How could you tell? At that speed the vibration would be so bad you wouldn't be able to focus on the speedometer and your hands would look like two grapefruit on the bars."
