    Howdy all,

To preface, I like to think I am mechanically inclined, but after the 10 hour fiasco installing a Power Commander last weekend, I thought I had better check in. I can't see how to remove/replace the windscreen. Do I have to remove fairings or is there some sneaky thing that I am not smart enough to see (very likely)?

    Thanks in advance!

if you are talking about a 6th gen, no fairing needs to be removed.
    Just remove screws and done.

Methinks that since he's in the 7th gen forum, it is probably a 1200..!

    Spawn350,
There's a thread on how to do this somewhere, hit the search and you may find it.

    Cheers,
    Smithy.

You got it - 7th gen. I couldn't find the thread on how to remove it. If anyone happens to see it I would appreciate it.

    Thanks!

I am also trying to determine how to remove windscreen. Have you purchased an aftermarket screen? I am tired of waiting on Zero Gravity, am considering the Givi touring screen.

Just did mine in 10 minutes with a beer!

Would have been 5 if I had two free hands ;-)
I just swapped out my stock screen for the Givi on my 2011 VFR800; easy as mate.
Take out the top two phillips screws, remove the plastic covers, then you'll see the two hidden screws.
The Givi will slot in easy once you press in slightly on the edges to warp it just ever so slightly, push down toward wheel to snap into place and replace screws.

I'm 6'3" and find the Givi now let the bugs just go overhead but extra wind directed off the screen's top corners right into my upper arms unless I'm hugging the tank.

All the best in your adventures.

Once again....the OP owns a 1200 not an 800. This is the 7th gen section after all..

I used asphalt a couple years back to remove part of mine but I don't think this is what he had in mind. There must be a schematic someowhere on line that would help you out. Even though it may not show step by tep, It may show connecting points and screws, clips and bolts. Good luck.

Mate go to the Zero Gravity site and have a look at the install instructions and it shows you. I cant beleive you had problems with Zero I had a screen in Oz in less than 7 days mine came from one of there ebay stores. Zero offer three different screens for the 1200 with all the angles and heights shown.

    Regards Overlord

the zero gravity web site gives more detail than even the factory service manual... it is pretty easy to remove the shield ...note the two hooks at the front lower corners next to the headlight, and it takes a bit of pressure to pop the bosses on the painted triangular piece , use your thumbs on the narrow painted strip above the instruments and push forward and down .....i was rather intimidated by the body work when i first looked at it, but after doing it a couple of times, it is really pretty simple !!! once you learn the tricks !!
