I need to build my own chain adjustment tool

Hello, I need to build my own tool since the dealer down here knmexico wants big cash for it and there are no sources for an used part, I'd like to make my own as it does not seems to be real hard and I'm leaving on a trip and would be nice to carry it, I've seen pics and seems to be extremely
Easy I just need some measurements . Can someone post a picture of the tool with a ruler next to it so I can make it as close as possible to the original tool? Thanks.

 

That's what I have been using since I got my bike

 

I was using the hammer/screwdriver method until I noticed the notches I was making in the adjustment cog. I bought one off eBay that was made in England. I'll try to photocopy or scan the flat section and take measurements.

OK Stosh. That one must belong to your mother. It's plain silver in colour.......

 

Here's the link to the photocopies I just made. Print em out on 8.5x11 (Letter) paper and it should be the exact size. The tool is between 1/8 and 3/16 inch thick.

Hmmm........I don't quite know how to put this delicately so I guess I'll just have to come out and say it.

Randy it is my sad duty to report to you that after a long and healthy active life your eyesight is beginning to fail on you.

There's no shame in this my friend,but the time has come to schedule a routine visit with the optometrist as it's out there for all here at VFR World to see that the ruler I used in my pic is clearly Pink and not Silver. :lol:

At the risk of taking Randy's side (being a fellow Canadian of course- LOL) I must say he is partly correct Stosh. Though the ruler you used IS pink in color, the chain adjuster tool is definitely silver. Perhaps if it was painted the same color as your frame..................:biggrin:

Maybe it was the 7 1/4" that had Randy confused.

Maybe in the interim our dude from Mexico can use a drift rather than a screwdriver.

 

It looks like you could order one from eBay in the UK but the postage to Mexico may be pretty steep. The genuine Honda one is more expensive as it includes both pieces - the spanner and the offset extension bar, which means you can adjust the tension without getting covered in chain grease, and the two pieces are designed to neatly stow away inside the underseat tool roll.

I guess Im far to late on this one but if you keep the mechanism well lubed you can move the adjuster by hand.
This is my first post,FL owner since 2000(ish)

 

I use a brass drift and hammer rather than the chain tool. When using the chain tool-- it is kind of a pain because the nuts of the bolts that mount the rear sprocket are in the way.
