I'm tired of searching! Mirror Swap Question

Got a 96. Looking to replace the the rubber condom mirrors.
I think I found that I can get a 5th gen set up to 2000 that will directly replace. Does anyone know if they are wider? The look of the condoms bothers me a little, the narrow view of my elbows bothers me A LOT.
Remember reading about a CBR mirror swap (can't find it). What model years, and are they wider?
Not buying the 'spacers' that go on the base. They look as bad as the condom.

I used the 2000 VFR condomless OEM mirrors ($65 each from memory) and enjoy them- crystal clear reare view and the bolt right up. No need for spacers

I would describe them as "more adjustable" and (maybe) 1/2" wider. While the condom mirrors are double acting adjustable (swivel at base and swivel at mirror end) it's almost impossible to adjust them effectively (for wider/taller riders) without pulling the condoms off (and risking pregnancy). You can adjust them more forward to get a wider view of things behind you. They look the part, fit in OEM holes and are totally stock looking. If you really want wider you can always go for one of those 1/2" to 3/4" base plate extenders.

First, it's almost 4:00PM EST right now. Strike one.
Second, I don't ride snowmobiles, nor am I from the UP. Strikes two AND three.
Third, who paid $70 for anything? Strike four.
Fourth, even if they were $70, they might solve your problem. Sounds like you need a real job.
Finally, sure, you said no mirror extenders - I was only pointing out (to betarace) the fact that the only way to make the 2K mirrors "wider" than the condom mirrors was to extend them.

By all accounts, you not only struck out, but you're wasted the next batter's first pitch and THEN some. Sounds like you need to get on the Prozac and/or get laid!

P.S. I've owned two '98's, and my VFR prior to those was the '96. I love 'em all!

So far I"ve got 2000 mirrors without the condoms, that may be wide enough.
Is there a chance that the CBR's are wider?

 

Saw a pic of some one using bar end mirrors. I ordered a set of mirrors with turn signals off of ebay because i was forced to replace one mirror when the pin that holds the arm to the swivel on the bike side sheered when the mirror was adjusted and the mirror fell off while i was going down a particularly bumpy road. Will let you know how my chinese knock offs work.
