Does your regular health plan cover racing injuries or do you need a separate policy? The wife just gave me the go-ahead to buy a track bike and trailer. I'M SO FOOKING PSYCHED!
We are a communist state so it is covered. But I do have private travel insurance for when I am down there because what we are allowed for medical expenses comes no where near what your medical people charge. Your medical is about 10 times what ours cost. Our medical even cover suicide attempts. Not quite sure if it actually covers suicide. I mean for what? But that is an interesting question for all of you down there. I would be willing to bet that the track, with all its rules on gear and what not, is safer than the road, even though you are more likely to go down at the track.
Way too many "health plans" and HMO's to even begin to address that. More specificity is needed to distinguish whether your track bike is for track days or racing. A couple of good starts will be joining AMA http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/membership/whyjoin_choice/whyjoin_race.aspx Cruising the PIR site for details on race dates, "track" dates, school dates and requirements. The WMRRA website has a shit load of info on their doings as well as stuff including ready to go racebikes for sale. Lots of "local" info at www.soundrider" .com
There are several medical transportation plans you should look into as well. An unwanted ride on a helicopter to the hospital can ruin you as well.
Most standard health insurance plans don't cover things such as racing (whether cars or bikes) & skydiving. Life Insurance coverage can be even more restrictive (such as also excluding scuba diving, bungee jumping, "extreme" sports). But as BB mentioned, there's way too many plans and options. If you have a house, kids, wife or anything else that sucks the life and money out of you, suggest you check into it in depth. If you are bachelor with no assets and don't give a flying fuck, have at it.
For the kind of pesos a track rig and all the other shit you need for speed, move the 84 and find a nice later VFR then go to one of the track schools at PIR.
That's not a bad idea. There's a 2Fast school the Ridge in Shelton. I din't know the track existed until recently.
I'm opinionated but not so much as to start in suggesting bikes for other dudes. I can suggest what the best oil, tires, hooch, cigars and tres chic outfits are if so needed. Get something that the parts are not some form of unobtanium.
WMRRA has a race school there come spring. This is to get a novice license to race. The TooFast school's account was closed. Not a clue on that. A bargain is Mike Sullivan's school. Years of experience and until he retired from racing rode WSB, Pro flat track and I think still holds several track records at PIR. Mike is an "iron man."
