But it's mine, I've had to store the vf1000r out in the shop while I rebuild the house to live in. Was out there getting some tools for something, and the bike actually spoke to me. So i took off the tarp and got the boxes out from around it. Awww, it's beautiful, even though a little beat. I bought it about 2 years ago and rode it fixed on it, it needs a lot of attention. I'll bring out the camera and snap some shots here soon, it's way rough, still months away from being able to work on it yet. But it's still cool.

They're NEVER cool under a tarp. They're only cool when ridden no matter what the condition!

Glad you came to your senses and getting her back in action. Yes, we need lots of pics. Now get to work.

Well, crappy pics but here are some shots. Burried deep, rear has gone flat, sat on it again. Got more pics, just got to get moved in , and the garage framed in.
It's got an unfinished dual head light hack job, but it reminds me of the Bol De'orr (sp) endurance racers of yore, some 10 cent flush mount blinkers, and a weird needle job on the speedo and tach, tail eliminator kit, and a bad paint job on the tank. Seems to have been run more then the 18000 mi on the clock. I had been riding it, it ran good, not great. Replaced the rec. reg. with a mosfet unit, badly needs fork seals and head bearings. Seems to draw a lot of amps on the starter, more so when hot. Needs a lot A LOT of attention.

Are those two 5 3/4" car head lights? Doesn't look like a hack job. Was there any cutting of the fairing to get them in?

Don't know the diameter of the lights, I'll have to measure. I've always loved the look of these motorcycles.

Looks like an 85 that had an 86 upper fairing installed. That would explain the round headlights.

Who ever did that conversion probably couldn't find an original 86 headlight assembly. Or like everything else for those bikes the price was astronomical.

The '85 and '86 upper fairings are identical, except for 2 small screw tabs in the headlight opening that are missing in the '86 model. The headlight and headlight surrounds are what's different. With them removed, you can't tell from the photos what year the upper is.

It's so cool that you guys know this stuff. I have no idea what all is on it. It's an '85, by the tag on the frame. Got some nice sounding Yosh cans on her also. I'll get her running around here soon, take some pics out in the sun. The more I'm thinking about how it was running, I think I might need a new stator, as the lights were never bright and the starter working harder, as it heated up. Never did put a meter on it after I put on the new R-R, don't know how well it's putting out. I'll be full of questions and pics I'm sure.

This I did not know. I always though that was one of the little differences between 85 & 86.
