Just need a little advice in how to check rectifier or alternator

    Posted yesterday about my bike dieing the batter is good. I just need help with how to test my rectifier and alternator well i mean how do i use the tester to check each one and what should it read battery was full charged put back into bike states bike up hooked up the tester and the volts dropped so it's not charging properly but any help would be great thank you

    For the future, you might want to consider fitting an LED voltage monitor wired into an ignition on controlled circuit. You need the sort which shows voltage as a number and can be bought for a few bucks from ebay. Whilst they are not super accurate they will give you a real time idea of what is going on with the charging system, and once you get a feel for what is normal, will allow you to spot if the charging system is in trouble with volts dropping through the floor or crazy high. The monitor won't prevent a failure, but it will give you a chance to head for a safe place before the battery is drained of whatever energy is left in it and the bike just dies leaving you stranded at the roadside.
