    Hello Everyone

Been thinking about buying a bike since my 1999 Dakota RT uses a gallon of gas when I look at it lol. Found a 1984 VF750 online for a very low price. Has 57k miles. I'm mainly lookin to drive it around town and an occasional 600 mile round trip to see family. Just thought I'd ask here what I should look for it before I buy it.

    Thanks

guess it all depends on what a "very low" price is.

    57k is a decent # of miles.

Buying a bike for fuel milage reasons never pans out. By the time you buy the bike, additional insurance, safety gear, maintenance, etc... you have to drive a LOT of miles and save a lot of gas. Then there's always the cost of the toys you'll find you need to go with it.

If you want a bike, great. Just don't think you're saving yourself a lot of money. Buying a bike is a hobby that doubles as transportation. If you want to save gas, ride public transportation.

As far as issues, the early VF4s had poor oil circulation that had a habit of taking out cams.

Thanks for the advice/info. I've been wanting something new to drive lately. I've owned my RT now for 5 years and even though I will never sell it I sure would like a change of pace. With the problem you mentioned, I'll pass on the VF750 I mentioned. It's only $1,000 but the price is what attracted me most. Since my post, I've found another bike, 1999 Suzuki Savage for the same price w/ far less miles AND it's the bike I was really wanting. Got to sit on one several years ago and really felt comfortable on it. If there is anything I should know about the 1999 Suzuki Savage 650 feel free to tell me.

    thanks again, ride safe
