It's pretty easy to forget the real reason for Memorial Day.
We should all give thanks to those that made freedom possible for so many.

    Thanks for posting that.

I get some health care at the VA, obviously no one there died for their country but there are some really broken bodies of all ages there. When you go into the military, you give the military a token that can be cashed in for your life.

The world is not a place that you can always negotiate for freedom. Sometimes it takes the sacrifice of some for the rest of us.

Memorial Day to Me is not just to honor my brothers in arms past or present, but also to honor those brothers in arms in the countries that I have served with.. Canada, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Egypt, Italy, Pakistan, Sweden, Finland.... We all had a job to do and we did it. Bless those that have fallen and bless those that stand the watch....

I did not stand the watch, in this meaning. But my dad did, 1941 to 1945:

Our family has a long standing tradition of service; my son is currently in the Corps, and my son-in-law is an officer in the Air Force. We think of all my brother and sisters in arms often around this house.

Today/tomorrow, we memorialize those who gave all, and thank them for the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and way of life.

    The American Fighting (Wo)Man

It is the American Fighting Man, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a free trial.
It is the American Fighting Man, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of press.
It is the American Fighting Man, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the American Fighting Man, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to demonstrate.
It is the American Fighting Man, not the church, who has given us our precious Freedom of worship.
It is the American Fighting Man, who consented to serve, who gives the objector, the freedom to conscientiously object.
It is the American Fighting Man, who defends and salutes the flag, whose dead body is draped by the flag in death, which gives us the freedom to spit on the flag, disrespect the flag, and burn the flag in protest.

Thanks, Master Guns. I like that one. Oldest daughter heading over soon on a "FET" team... When I asked wiskey tango foxtrot that was she told me the PR out of joint Spec Ops says its "female soldiers in a non combat support role of 3rd SF A-Teams and 75th Ranger Regement to comply with the female searches female part of Pentigon ROE" She added that the A-team she's going with has been spending a load of trigger time with her gearing her up....

Wish her well and tell her to "stay frosty", from this family of (mostly) Jar Heads.

By the way Squid, that quote from ole' Ronnie was for us Devil Dogs, not the "U.S. ARMED FORCES"...

(Everybody's always trying to steal our shet...)

It should read: "In his letter to Hickey, President Reagan wrote, “Some people work an entire lifetime and wonder if they ever made a difference to the world. But the Marines don’t have that problem.”

Anybody got a pithy quote from Sarah Palin our next in line Commander in Chief from the assend of that Hog she was on at Rolling Thunder?

Regan's speechwriter really should have given a little credit to Winston Churchill for that bit.

Sorry, was looking for a good military quote and came across that one. I saw it on a few sites, guess they were wrong. Changed it back to my branch. By the way, thank you for you and your family's service. Even if the quote is just for the Marines, I believe it still applies to all branches of the military. Everyone who has served and is currently serving, has and is making a difference in the world.

She's getting in the right mind set. One of the operators who just got back passed on some equipment to her.
