I will confess upfront I am not nor ever will be a motorcycle rider. I am interested in motorcycle engines for the express purpose of using them in Micro Sprint racing. Our cars are limited to 600cc and we have 3 classes, 600 stock non-wing, 600 stock winged and 600 winged outlaw. I have used other Honda 600’s and a couple of Yamaha 600’s engines to date in the stock non-wing class. All of our cars are sidewinders (a portion of the engine hangs outside the main frame rails. Our racing does need HP but on the tracks we run torque is a larger factor. I need to get as much power off the corners as I do straightaway speed. I have always been intrigued with the idea of a V4 in Micro Racing.
I am looking for as much info as possible on the early VF 500 / VFR 500 Interceptors. I am listing the questions I have, so any answers will help tremendously.
    1. Does anyone have the technical specifications on the 500? What years was the 500 produced? Need bore and stroke, gearbox ratios, HP and Torque specs, any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
    2. Is the engine easily modified? Are parts for modification available? Modifications would include taking the 500 closer to 600cc, carb mods (or switching to F.I.), camshafts, newer electronics (Power Commanders, etc.)
    3. Is this engine reliable with a strong bottom end?
    4. Is this even feasible or reasonable?
Thank you for any and all help in this quest.
