well it has perfect throttle response when you roll on the throttle but when you let off it goes back to idle very slowly, sometimes hovers around 3000 before dropping to 1100, i went through the cables and choke cables and they are good and lubed. also there seems to be a louder than normal valve ticking [right side?]. the front suspension seems real rough over stutter bumps, i have 3 psi in forks. lastly--the tires are 110/90 on front and cant remeber on rear, can i go 1 size wider with out any problems? thanks for the help!

Double check your choke cable where it makes the connection at the carbs, under the air filter, and choke lever on carbs to make sure they are not hanging up on you. A bad carb sync could be the prob too, I didnt know a bad carb sync could do this until just recently, as I had somewhat the same prob. I pulled the carbs, not as bad as everyone thinks(well me atleast) and did a bench sync myself, never did one before, but it fixed my high Idle prob. Dunno bout the tyres or suspension, bad fork oil possibly?

Stick to the recommended tire size as those rims are made for that. take a look at Bridgestone, believe it to be a BT45, Yep, and the rear is a 140/70 and yep to check the return spring, thou these have a push pull system so you should be able to roll it back manually not counting on the spring to do the job, could just need a good WD40 washing.

if PO fiddled with carbs and set the mixture screws too rich that can also cause rpms to hang up....

Forks: You may need to drain and refill fork oil, using 10W fork oil, not the ATF that Honda recommends.

The best results can only be obtained by pulling forks off the bike, removing fork cap, spacer, spring and washer and inverting forks to drain for a few hours into a pan.
.Next wash out fork with fuel, kerosene, safety-clean or whatever SEVERAL times untill all traces of grey sludge are gone. Then refill to 6" below top of fork tube after pumping fork through full range of travel several times as shown on page 14--19 of your official Honda service manual.
What, NO manual??? Then you shouldn't be working on the bike! Get one soon!

A bad carb sync can also cause the symptoms you describe.
