My grandson's '83 VF750F suddenly went dead on cylinders 1 & 3. There is spark, but very weak and orange in color ...if the plug gap is opened up to .050", the spark will not jump the gap. Pulse generator checks out good at 525 ohms, coil checks out good on primary and secondary, checked out all the plug connections, concluded that the igniter box is at fault. I have a good pair of igniters from an '86 VF500F.....would the one for 1 & 3 work for a test???? Wire colors on the 500 box are the same as the 750 and in the correct positions, plug fits.

If everything looks the same, I would give it a try.

Figured it out.....sort of. I cleaned and applied dielectric grease to all the connectors associated with the ignition system..voila..nice big fat blue spark to 1 & 3. Don't know which connector was the culprit, didn't want to spend the time checking after cleaning each one.
