Hi, i bought a buggy last night with a vfr 750 engine in, I am very excited about working on it as a project.
However there are a few things i need to find out before I can go ahead. Firstly the age of the engine? This is so i can get the correct battery, clutch slave cylinder etc..

here is a picture of the engine, any identifyable parts to find out what year the engine is from?

    Cheers, jammy.

You can take the engine number and deduct 55 from the last 3 digits of the serial/engine number and this should give you the VIN of the bike. Then go to this VIN site and plug in the VIN to get the year and type bike.

Honda Motorcycle VIN Decoder @ Motoverse.com

That motor looks like a second gen 86-89?

Every Honda VF or VFR I've looked at the motor number is the VIN plus 55. The first 55 engines were for testing and such purposes. Check your own bikes out. Let me know if you find something different. I never have so far.

Looks like an 87 700. Slave cylinders are the same on gen 5 for sure and I suspect for all gens. Many of the hard parts have gone unchanged over the generations.
