Hi everyone. So picked up my first VF500F. I was on the hunt for a 800 but none that where in my range. But I fell in love with the color scheme and after the test drive I was in love with it. Also my ol lady fits on it well so next year if I find a 800 she can ride the 500.

So anyone have any used fairings damaged or not for sale. Cheaper the better. I want to make a mold. Same goes with a solo seat cover.

If I make any solo cowls carbon fiber or fiberglass anyone interested

I am also looking for a exhaust badge as pictured made out of brass. I spent 10h polishing pipes and getting rid of dent but the badge is all wrinkled.

Do you guys recommend full synthetic motor oil

And what psi should I have in my forks. There a little too soft for my liking.

Nice, Photos too. ;) always thought it was a mistake Honda didn't continue making these, there's a fine example, thanks for sharing, and welcome to the wacky world of VFR owners.

Welcome to The World! Can't help you on the fairing or seat cowl, other than to suggest surf CL and eBay and maybe the classified section here and on VFRDiscussion.com. As far as synthetic oil, sure why not? Most modern engines seem to be fine with it and usually allows for longer oil change intervals. As far as which brand...that would be opening a can of worms, so just use your favorite and change and decent intervals and you should be fine.

Are you a native to Syracuse? My wife grew up there but is now a Californian. Although she has great memories of Syracuse and misses the Fall with all of the color changes of the foliage, she prefers the warmth and sun of CA now! We go back there once in a while to visit her family but we try and stay away during winter time, almost got stranded at the airport once. Just beat the blizzard by a couple hours!

I'm a heavy wrecker driver so I love winter. Right here in the snow band off Lake Ontario. The beautiful Adirondack mountains are close by and there's every terrain you would want to tackle. I grew up in boonville area I'm sure your wife knows where that is.

If it wasn't for NY politics it would be the best place in the world to live.

Best part of the bike is the 800$ price tag. All and all I really like it.

    I'm a vintage Honda freak

    85 cr500
    85 odyssey fl350
    86/87 trx250r's
    83/85 atc70's

So this "new" Honda fits right in

I have a seat cowl with no hold-down mechanism, I really wanna use it but can't. If you can make a mechanism I would gladly send you my cowl in the mail to make a mold in exchange. I think people might buy them.

That would work out great. I was going to make a custom one I just do t want to drill a hole in the seat but even if I had a stock one I could modify it. It's good for initial dementions

I'd be interested in a solo seat cowl depending on how much it would be.

BTW there are infinity threads on this and I really don't want to start another oil discussion. However, I was in a similar situation to yourself last year and put synth in and my clutch started to drag.

By all means, it's your bike and if you want to run synth then go for it. I however found that Shell Rotella T is what my bike runs happiest on.

    I have an 86 VF500 fyi.

    Welcome to the club!

Well I've been welcomed to the vf life more intimately than I would have liked.

    I love anything vintage Honda.

But I'm planning a full restore of the vf500.

Or just bolt the cr500 motor in it. That would be awesome

It was running a bit warm and I was looking for a way that may help it run a little more cool. But pulling the motor I noticed half the radiator was full of what looks like head gasket stop leak. So hopefully when it's back together and full of engine ice it will act better

LOL, the CR even has the old Stupid Hurts band-aid. That was one awesome/scary motor. I still ride my CR 250 and it wild machine at 250cc's.

My Alpinestars Tech 10's are just about shot from kicking the CR. After the last rebuild the compression is very high.

CR500s can smell fear. They will take your ankle out and drive your knee into the the throttle tube.
