The thing that swings an anti vaxer is when he or she becomes seriously ill and just about clings on to life
That will affect them for months if not years to come

I’m still suffering with breathing issues 9 months later, if I could have been vaccinated before the virus struck I would not be in the state I am now

And the odds of being hit by another road user is less than catching COVID from a stranger

Once again I will say that if they think that their lives and everyone they meet are worthless then they deserve what ever they are responsible for

My daughter has a friend that will not vaccinate he kids for any reason for anything, but would not take their puppy out for a walk till it had had all its jabs, goes to show the mentality that values a dog over the children

There is no reasoning with such folk

After I’d posted, I remembered you’re diabetic and edited it. Was worried you’d think I was trying to take a personal shot or casting judgement. Nothing but love for you man and I appreciate the spirited debate with smart people. You were not the image I had in mind when I made that statement.

I did not think you were targeting me at all. But you do make a point. Maybe a little broad but there is truth in it. Diet has an enormous part in type 2 diabetes. My occupation was no friend in my heath or lifestyle back then. The thing is, like I said earlier, I don't see anyone here budging from their opinions on this pandemic debate. In all likelihood, the only ones whose opinions may be changed are those who have not publicly said anything. Unfortunately, we as human beings, tend not to say something in public, then say we were wrong in public. But of course, I don't have to worry about that. LOL

Tink I think Randy is right. A bike crash is exponential deaths where a virus is.
We could have been over this crap with if we had gotten on the same page. Polio, measles, mumps, Rubella....... things of the past because we got vaccinated. Don't see these diseases causing world wide shut downs.
And living in Florida I read, hear and work with people that know the outrageous shenanigans that DeSantis is involved with right now. Check out the roads to nowhere and how the companies receiving 100's of millions of state dollars are his big campaign contributors. And that is just scratching the surface of his corruption. Selling of souls continue on.

Want to see the people budging from their opinions? Go to my friends hospital where she runs a Covid unit. Just yesterday she had 22 non vaccinated begging for the vaccine right before they were vented. Hindsight is 20 20. They are beyond capacity and she is burnt out. Lost a lot of nurses that could not take it anymore.

Ya. I guess I did use a little bit of a broad brush there.

But I do think, those who got infected aside, once one chooses a side in a debate such as what we are discussing here, one tends to stick with it. You can apply that to any debate, such as the gun debate, pro life debate, our military involvement world wide, and even politics, which is what this thread is about.

I don’t believe this is true. The most vaccinated countries are having surges. With animal reservoirs, covid isn’t going anywhere.

edit: we should look at the numbers. I wonder if you compared motorcycle miles travelled compared to bad outcomes and the virus with bad outcomes…

I also don’t think that 30yrs ago we knew just how much our modern (North American) diet would impact our lives later in life as our processed food supply chain evolved. One of my earlier points sympathetic to vaccine hesitant people; we rarely know as much as we think we do.

I do believe that convenient processed food is a huge contributor to our society's over all obesity and thus also to such things as Type 2 Diabetes and heart disease. As a society we no longer eat as much fresh foods and produce we used to. Everything is packages and lots o chemicals, fats and salt is used to preserve and add to the flavour and texture of the products we have come to desire.

I recall back in the 70's and 80's I was extremely fond of a freshly made garden salad. I used to make one for most meals and actually considered it a desert. I threw so many things into the salad. But I never used a dressing. Maybe a splash of lemon juice and salt and pepper. But I have succumbed to today's society's laziness and eat packages salad when I have it. Even have salad dressing but am very ginger with that I prefer the taste of the veggies over the dressing. Things started to turn that way late 70's when I embarked on my first career and eating at restaurants was a way of nourishment for me while on duty.

Actually I do have a little bit of experience researching obesity and diabetes. One of our greatest contributors in this country was the food guide pyramid and what we were taught as kids. However, there were people who knew even back then, but there was lobbying involved and our very own USDA and how they made their $$. It's a lot more involved than that but most of you likely have heard at least some of what was going down back then.

Hell, it wasn't too much different from cigarettes in a way.

And advertising for junk foods is plastered everywhere. Our kids are brought up with not only that, but their parents and roll models setting the pace with far less than ideal food and snacks. I do not expect to see an improvement in my lifetime.

By research I mean I ate my way to obesity and if I don't get better control diabetes may not be far behind. :)

After looking a that chart is hard to believe only roughly 45,000 dead in 45 years. that is not even close to 1 day of covid.

but you’re not comparing it in similar context. Your statement would imply that motorcycles are safer than automobiles. What are the deaths compared with number of riders or mikes traveled? Motorcycle deaths and injuries are only for those that ride. So what is the risk every time you climb in the saddle compared to your covid risk? Could they both be .02%?

I have had this debate with my sister before about the right to an opinion vs the right to every opinion being of equal worth.

It is my opinion that many people have an opinion that should be considered of more value than many others. Or if you prefer the converse statement, there are many people whose opinion is very uninformed and not of much value.

I feel like at some point along our way we have lost track of that.

On the contrary. I value your opinion. I wasn't pointing fingers at an individual but a change in our society's perception.

I just saw on the news today that Merck has had promising results with a pill to TREAT covid. Do you think that will make a difference with anti-vax people? Personally, I expect it'll mean a slowdown in vaccination even though it will be some time before full FDA approval.

The irony in that will be that 'full FDA approval' was one of the mantras of the vaccine refusal. I suppose now we will see if they believe one or the other.

I live in south Fl so you are much more likely to be killed on a bike than even swimming in a pool of blood with a thousand bull sharks! lol. Thats why I'm riding less and less on the streets and more in the woods and track.
What I was really surprised at was the number of MC deaths. thought it was a LOT more.
