I finally found a decent bike, o6 with 30k on it. It's black, has factory bags, all in pretty good condition, just needs a major clean. It's been sitting for 4 years, fired right up with a jump. It will need tires soon (half life)
I've never ridden a 6th gen (just the 1 mile ride to test it) but it felt good. This is the 7th Inteceptor Iv'e owned since 1984. I haven't ridden any bike in 5 years. Pics soon

That is a great find. It looks like it was someone's pride and joy with that smoky touring screen.

If its has been laid up for years even if it strats up first time I would invest in at least a standard service and carefully inspect the brakes and chain for tight links

Take care and have fun on your latest VFR.

    Thanks guys.

Guy was divorcing and needed cash, the bike was at his BIL's house. He claimed he started it a few times a year, the battery was dead, but the battery was dated 6-21. It had a valve adjustment at 24k. I changed oil, charged battery, all the fluids look fine, except the clutch fluid looks a little darker. It starts instantly and easily, it's quiet...has stock exhaust. The chain is loose and dirty, probably replace chain/sprockets, I believe it's original.

Are the stock chain/sprocket pitch, gearing ok....or 520?

Hopefully you will be able to get the bike into shape quickly but I realise that I forgot to mention tyres(tires).

Please remember those tyres are your only connection with the planet. If they let fly - you fly too.

OK it looks like it has been parked up on the main stand which will help a bit, but even so some of the weight has been pressing down on the same spot of the front tyre for years. Even with reasonably new tyres you really do not want to leave a motorbike parked in exactly the same place for years and years as it can deform the tyre structure and potentially create weak spots in the carcass which may not be obvious from a simple visual inspection, but once ridden hard could develop into a catastrophic failure with no warning.

So before considering any serious ride on that bike you probably should check out the date codes on both wheels.

    https://www.utires.com/articles/read-date-code-motorcycle-tires/

This will tell you the date of manufacture. I hope they are not original fit tyres from 2006. Manufacturers generally recommend replacing any tyres when they are 5 or 6 years old. In France some insurers assume a 10 year old tyre is automatically unroadworthy which may void a claim.

Personally I would be very wary of trusting my life to any tyre which is over 8 years old.

    Take care ATGATT

    All good points.
Tires will be here in a couple days. Went for a pair a Michelin Pilot Road 5. I didn't even look at the age of the older tires, they do appear to have a lot of life, but why trust it. I am reminded of the typical Honda quality working on this bike.

I am also getting my body and mind ready to ride. It's been 7 years since I've ridden. I am in good physical shape (especially for 59) but I'll take it slow. Isn't there a saying about getting back into riding a bike? .....it takes 1 month for every year you didn't ride, to get back into riding shape?

I am in the same boat regarding riding skills. I have not ridden regularly in years. Just about ready for a good long ride after puttering around the neighborhood for a year or so. Best of luck to you, stay in shape!

Sounds like you're ready. I will start slow, and I know my limits.

    Hey Y2K7RWB :Welcome:

It is great to see another VFR owner join us - especially with a Red White and Blue.

Please find time to swing by the "introductions" part of the site to say Hi to the rest of the folks on here and tell us a bit about your VFR and your riding history.

Hopefully your VFR will give you many years of reliable service, but if you ever need help it is a good idea to update your forum profile to include an approximate location (city/state) which will automatically appear with your posts, and indeed you may then find others living nearby are happy to join you for a ride.

    Have fun - ATGATT

Great looking machine. Just take it slow and get used to being on two wheels again. I was sidelined for 6 months recovering from an ankle procedure and finally got to take my ‘07 out for a nice run today. Felt great getting back on the vfr, you will love your new bike.

I believe there is a theory for us that have been off a bike for a while.....for every year you were not riding, it takes that number of months to get back to where you were. Anyone heard of this?
