A bit about myself... I am relatively new to the motorcycle world at all, but really grew quite fast in the past year while working to complete my resto-moddation of a 1962 Honda CB77 Superhawk. I've been riding it around quite a bit (nearly 1000 miles in the past month) when I realized that maybe it might be nice to find a more modern motorcycle, something equally collectible. I did a lot of searching, a lot of looking, and actually had settled for a 1996 NSR250 MC28 that was completely registered, licensed, and mostly legal here in California (a tall order for a 2-stroke). I was trying to put money in the owner's hand and he wouldn't take it, telling me that there's someone on his way down from four hours away to see the bike. I figured it was fate if the other guy buys the bike, and I walked away, hoping to hear that it was still available later that day. No luck. It sold, I kept looking.

Looked at a few other bikes, all gray market models from Japan or Italy. I started looking for NC30 VFR400's when my mechanic stumbled upon what we both thought was an excellent example of one, right down the street! It turns out that it wasn't a VFR, but an RVF400 in near-perfect condition. I told the guy I wanted it, came back the next morning (today) and bought it.

I'm a smaller guy, a wheel jockey, if you will. I don't like dealing with bigger bikes. I LOVE this RVF! It looks outstanding, runs perfectly, handles like a dream, and has a sound that makes Viagra look like a breath mint... This forum looks really well sorted. I think I'm going to like it here! A few pictures from today, the first day of ownership:

....I even got some spares, including a brand new wheel! [IMG]

Is this the same bike that recently sold on BARF? If so, did you pay the full boat $6300, or did the guy cut you some slack?

It is the one from BARF and I paid close to the full amount. I don't think many people actually went and saw the bike and appreciated how truly clean the bike was. Plus, there are VERY few actually registered legally in the US. Someone told me the number is 7 (hard to verify). I'd gladly pay to never see another one of my bike while riding. Half the fun of owning a bike like this is the rarity. Plus, I did some research on those spares and they're worth quite a bit alone. That rear wheel is completely unused (according to the owner and the apparent condition). Tyga and Ebay sell them for about $300-400USD with miles under them!

I'm happy with my purchase. Maybe you'll see it at Alice's sometime and you can check it out for yourself!

It is a very nice machine, The big positive was the owner. Enjoy.

As for being rare, well don't be dissappointed if you go to the Laguna MotoGP and see a bunch of them with CA plates.

Thanks. And NorCalBoy, I won't be disappointed. What is "a bunch". I saw another number, from another reputable source that says there's between 7-20 of them nationally. Maybe the previous source meant just in California? I dunno. Either way, still quite rare. There's more Desmodromics rolling around than these bikes. If I wasn't racing that weekend, I'd be at the GP to see for myself. Take some pictures for me!

It is also nice to see one in the hands of someone who can appreciate it and look after it as well.
