    BUMP!

Same as the other thread; you don't have to be a NESBA member to sign up. It is a little more expensive, but you can sign up without paying the yearly membership.

    Bubba,

Curious here as I've never ridden with NESBA but wouldn't mind checking them out. What is the "upcharge" of attending one of their events if you are not a member? Thanks.

Nesba membership is $75 a year so 3 track days pays for a membership

Thanks. Judging by this I'll sign up if I go at all this year I guess a it looks like it's a $35/day "penalty" and I typically try to do 2 days at a time anyway which means I'd already be all-in everything but $5.

I was looking at their bike prep section and it all looks pretty standard. I see that only Advanced requires wiring. I'd likely sign up for Intermediate so that would not apply.

    Thanks again.

usually they have a member drive in December-March which lands a $25 credit in your account, worth asking about - you also get a coupon for a free t-shirt as well as mechanical/rain insurance (if no wheels turn on the track due to rain=refund, if you break your bike and cant complete the day=partial refund for unused sessions).

    Your call...

    Bubba,

I'll be sure to let you know if I'm sure that I'm coming out. I have a lot on the plate for the next month and will wait until end August to make a call on this.

How many riders per session does Nesba typically put on the track?

And finally, how is the pavement at Summit? I've heard friends of mine bitch (who haven't been there this year) and others on here bitch, but it sounds like it's been repaired. Is it really better?

    Thanks.

pavement on summit could be called "decent" I have ridden it every year for the past 6 years and it's much better than last year. the repave was really on the line only (check this vid) from May (my buddy was following me) YouTube - Follow Steve at Summit May 8th_0001.wmv

NESBA typically runs 15-18 riders per track mile, so at summit @ 2 miles that would be in the 30-40 range

    Sorry for all the questions.

Watching the video, the one piece said "No Passing in the Turns". What group were you running in? Is this a rule with Nesba across B/I/A or all?

Also, it looks like the fresh pavement was laid down ONLY in the corners. Was the transition point onto the new stuff pretty smooth I guess?

I'd say that there's an 80% chance that I make it up there for this. I had planned on going down to VIR for a cornerspeed event (that's where my buddies want to go) but I like the idea of getting two days instead at Summit... we'll see.

Hmm...I may have to get into this.

I've done a 'Try the Track' at Summit Point - Shenendoah (as recent as this past weekend) and I expect to have my Spidi pants way before that September weekend. I've *never* done a track day. Would you reccomend that I try with this group (as a beginner) or should I choose the beginner class with another group?

Please be brutally honest; I won't take offense!

    Matt:

No passing in turns in B group.
Passing only on the outside in I group
A group; make the passes clean.

Sign up for B unless you have race expereance or a ton of on track training.

If you are going to Cornerspeed, he brother we understand, there is always NJMP in October or an even next year, God willing.

    revengel:

Again, if you've never done a NESBA track day, start in B. NESBA's B group is not slow. Yes, there are some slow people in the group (I'm one of them) but it generally rolls along pretty well. Especially after the second session.

I would state you will probably do fine in NESBA B group. The biggest thing is you do kind of need to roll down the front straight at a reasonable speed for the track (60 to 70 mph won't do) And the really big thing is be as consistant as possible so the faster riders can get around you. Trust me, it doesn't piss off faster riders if you are slower. They get pissed if you are all ove rthe place. Especially on straights.

The trick to passing in NESBA is when you come off the turns YOU have to have the better drive out. Nothing is more satisfying than passing better technology on an old ass VFR.

It's not that common to seee smeoen suck so bad they get yanked off the track. betarace has a story, but I haven't seen it yet.

Thanks BZ - I had planned on starting in Beginner class no matter what. Now does NESBA have a slow guided lap or two after the mandatory meeting for the B group before brining up the speed?

NESBA rules for B group are no passing in the turns (i.e., you may only pass when the bike of the person you are passing is vertical) - I group is pass on the outside, A group (racing license) is pass anywhere.

transitions from old to new pavement are fine, but you have to stay on the race line to avoid seams

First two sessions are generally pretty mellow to learn the lines.

The first two laps of the first two sessions are under a yellow flag so you can't pass at all.

Oh, and the NESBA control riders do work with you generally. Somedays they wok with you more if things are rolling nicely.
