Hey gang, got a situation down here. Bout a month ago my '99 vfr began having some start-up issues. Just real weak on the turn over. I assumed it was the battery and replaced it, but when I connected the new battery, the 30a fuse on the right blew and began to spark. Traced the problem down to the rectifier, and replaced that. Now nothing sparks, but the bike doesn't register than its in neutral and won't start. Dash lights up, but no neutral light ( got f1), no clock, and it doesn't sound like the fuel pump is doing anything. All fuses are good; where should I start? I read a couple other threads from folks with similar issues, but didn't get a clear solution. Should I start by checking the neutral safety and killswitch, or is this something else entirely? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yikes. If it got to the point of sparking and blowing fuses, it most probably tore up other electrical components.
The clock being out is a bad sign as well. Does the rest of the gauge panel work?

As far as the neutral light...every once in a while my bike has trouble finding neutral. Moving the shifter pedal in and out of neutral a couple times and working the clutch lever a couple times helps.

The big issue is the electronics. You may want to have someone go over your bike with a multimeter to check for shorts.

    Good luck.
