Lately the bike has been making noises, just after startup, but while the engine is not yet fully warm. it goes away when the engine is hot.
At 3-4000, it like one of the cylinders is leaking exhaust pulses. I can't find any leaks on the exhaust pipes, so assume its internal. Sounds like valves.

I don't notice any change in power, and its still running smoothly

I've had someone tell me it could be the cam chain tensioner.
1 - does this sound correct?
2 - is it important to get fixed immediately?
2 - how big a repair is this?

The bikes got 24,000 k. I've had it for 2 years of light use and don't have a repair history on it.

    Thanks

The high mileage bike i sold this year would make noise and would almost go away when warmed. Full tune up and cleaning the injectors smoothed oot the idle and noise in drive train went away. Kinda sounded like a ticking noise from rear head but was difficult to pin point between that and primary gear and basket.

any chance it's the starter clutch? Or a throttle body sync?

Doubt it. the noise continues as long as the engine is cold.
In this crappy weather that can be 10 min.

I'm getting a tune up done now, all new fluids etc. Haven't asked to do the injectors yet though.
Will see how much that helps.

I only suggest because I've had both issues cause similar noises for up to 10 minutes on other VFR models.

Older VFR models would crack the starter clutch housing and rattle when cold. And the carbed V4's sounded like a bucket of bolts if a sync screw was 1/4turn off.
