So what causes this? Not always and rarely, but once in awhile I'll be at a traffic light in neutral (cluth out) and when I go to engage 1st gear -- nothing. Usually I end up having to shift to 2nd to just start some friction and then I am able to shift down to first. Anyone elaborate?

    Howdy,

This is not necessarily a sign of problems. There may be times with the gear teeth are not properly lined up for the gears to mesh. If you slightly push the bike forward or backward while putting it in gear, it should slide right into place. If that does not help, well... hmmm...

    Adios,

I get this sometimes on my FV. Generally I keep foot pressure on the gear selector peg and just very slowly let the clutch out. It soon drops in and you shouldn't stall
