    Bought a '98 VFR today, 13K miles. $2K.
    Sargent Seat.
2 brothers high rise carbon exhaust,
    VFR'ness installed.
    Heated grips.
    Tires literally brand new.

the bad, it's got some scratches on the one side from a previous owner tipping it over in gravel. Still I can live with it, and at some point I know a guy who can restore it for a couple hundo.

Now I'm a returning rider, rode all the time, had kids didn't ride at all. This bike is perfect for me from the little bit of riding I've done. (like less then 2 miles)

Wow this bike is almost telepathic on what you want it to do, and while I had to correct my posture at first as I was a little heavy on the wrists it was pretty darn comfory.

Of course it's now going to rain for the next 2 days straight.

I wasn't gonna look really hard for this bike until the spring but I just couldn't pass this up. Not that many miles with those extras. Throw in that my wife actually said I should go get it and there ya have it.

oh and just btw. if you ever need to go get a motorcycle from somewhere and can't just ride it back. U-haul motorcycle trailers make it pretty damn easy and at $15/day rental you can't beat it.

When you own a 5th Gen in the U.S.A. somebody will eventually ask you this question, "Is your 5th Gen a 'California' model (which means the lightly-strangled C.A.R.B., California Air Resources Board, compliant version) or is it a '49-State' (standard internal combustion pollution "super-spreader") model?"

The answer to that question is found in the bike's VIN number, the 8th digit is a "0" (zero) for a 49-State bike and "1" for a California bike. Either JH2RC460 or JH2RC461.

(And yes, I see that you mentioned a thing called "rain" in your post which strongly suggests you don't live in Cali)

wow it's a wonderful day for riding in PA today. Just got back from 20ish miles of riding. I have some maintenance stuff to do, as I need to drain/fill brake/clutch fluid. maybe should do coolant while i'm at it. More because that fluid has been in there for a little while. (2 years+ i think). The oil was changed 60 miles ago so it's fine. It's just it was so nice out the road beckoned me to ride upon it...

I'll check the forums here on recommendations for fluids.

Welcome to The World! Good to see another 5 Gen find a new home. Congratulations, and yes, what Squirrelman said!

Long story short, even with the VFR'ness, look into replacing the RR with one of the units from www.roadstercycle.com or you may be looking at this at some point...

lol. ok i laughed a little at that. @OOTV I'll take a look at that. I just can't believe this bike 22 years old, she looks new and runs like it too. I've been waiting for a 5th gen like this to pop up and when it did I told the guy within an hour of the add popping on craigslist that I had cash and I would buy it if there wasn't anything majorly wrong.

I mean there is a cosmetic blemish on the one fairing but it's something fixable I think. I'll post a pic up of it later. but over all no one that has seen it can believe it's a 98.

It's a very clean example. Looks a lot like my'98- same seat. Maybe look for some used Heli Bars. Way more upright riding position. And when you get a chance check out the header build on this site that many of us bought, as rust was eating many of our 22 year old headers.
