On a 1986 VF500F... I know the Honda service manual says that when you remove the flywheel (alternator) cover to be prepared to catch any oil that escapes. Now I'm wondering, how much oil is "normal"? I had the cover off once about 2 weeks ago when adjusting valves. Ran it for about 15-20 minutes total since then as I'm working out the bugs. I removed the flywheel cover again today and got another dribble of oil. Maybe a teaspoon total. Is this anything to worry about? Thanks guys.
Thanks Captain. I spent some time looking at the parts catalog drawings and I can't clearly see what's going on here. Does the oil that collects here work its way back to the crankcase somehow? Is there a seal on the crankshaft that is supposed to prevent the oil from reaching this spot? I'm happy to know that it is normal, but I'm just curious as to how it works. Thanks.
