So I picked up an '85 vf500 about a month ago. The previous owner had fallen over on the bike at low speed and decided motorcycles weren't for him, then let the bike sit for about 5 years under a carport. I decided to give it a go for $150. After cleaning the carb, flushing all the hydrolics and changing the oil I fired up the bike. It runs well for a bike that hadn't been started in several years, but it has a pretty horrible oil leak. So I traced down the leak and it is coming from the engine casing split on the back corner of the motor sort of behind the drive sprocket. So I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen before? I was also told that the bottom end of the engine was switched to an '86, so I'm kinda thinking when the po made the switch he didn't put the proper sealant in between the casing. So my last question is for anyone that has completely broken down and rebuilt their vf, how difficult is it and is there anything I should look out for? Thanks for and advise or words of wisdom!
