Hi all, I got the Honda 2002-2007 Service manual with the 04 vfr I picked up on 2/2/13 The PO pasted in revisions to the manual as he was the original owner. Page 1-7 lists Lubrication System Specifications. The word NEW is highlighted in the recommended engine oil spec.

at bottom of page it reads: Revised, November 2006, MSV 11749 (0611)

it reads: NEW Viscosity SAE 10W-30,

Also page 3-15 was revised under MSV 11749(0611) and states 10w-30. but Arrow next to it reads ===10w030 10w-40==>>>

I have the owners manual and it has viscosity up to 10-30 up to about 80 degrees F. so ok for cold climate and 10-40 or 10-50 up past 100 degrees F. I live in warm to hot climate and can not imagine 10-30 year round.

QUESTION......Anyone else seen these revisions ? If yes, Did it change your mind about the viscosity.

I plan to use 15-40 Rotella T. The PO used 20-50 at first in hot summer when he bought it then regularly used motul 10-40. Guess he never read the revision or did not care to change. Bike had 48k when I got it.

I guess it depends on where you live. I live in a very hot climate, so I use 10w-40. I know that the local Honda shop uses 10w-50.

Just use 10=40w. Don't need 10-50w that's a little thick, unless your racing in the heat. Use a good motorcycle oil not car oil and your motor will last a long time.

Living in a warm climate like Rainbow, no need for a winter-rated oil as low as 10wt, so 20W-40 is probably a better choice all around.

I really did not mean this to be an oil thread but a discussion about manual revisions and awareness of changes ever so slightly. It is a thick manual and I wonder how many other changes came along.

We all run whatever oil we buy for our bikes and how good that is depends a lot on how good we are at maintenance no mater what oil.

    Anyway thanks all for input.
